The US Senate has passed a bill on Wednesday which adds Premium Processing service for H4 and L2 extensions including H4 EAD and L2 EAD applications. The bill enables quick processing which will result in undertaking more visa categories, including employment authorisation documents and certain green card categories. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services used to have a 90 days limit for processing employment authorization documents, however, it gets delayed by months and in rare cases a year which in the past has led to mass lawsuits filed against the USCIS. This bill will bring down the processing time to 30 days and will be helpful for a lot of people.
The application types eligible for premium processing are as follows
(A) employment-based nonimmigrant petitions and associated applications for dependents of the beneficiaries of such petitions
(B) employment-based immigrant petitions filed by or on behalf of aliens;
(C) applications to change or extend nonimmigrant status;
(D) applications for employment authorization; and
(E) any other immigration benefit type that the Secretary deems appropriate for premium processing
The premium fee will vary from $1500- $2500 depending on the type of application. This is an unexpected news which brought cheers to hundred thousand plus people utilizing H4 and L2 EAD.
